In “A Doll's House”, Nora’s central theme of secession from society was made to question society's view of women and marriage. Nora progresses during the course of the play eventually to realize that she must discontinue the role of a doll and seek out her individuality. Ibsen uses Nora’s character to illustrate that society's expectations of a woman's role was incorrect.
