Beowulf 212 pages
Translated by Seamus Heaney Difficulty: 4
I. Setting:
The poem begins and ends in Geatland, Beowulf’s home country. Beowulf and his troops travel across the sea from Geatland to Denmark to assist King Hrothgar in fighting Grendel. The three major battle scenes in Beowulf take place in Heorot Hall, where Grendal is defeated, a haunted mere in Denmark where Grendel’s mother meets her end, and a dragon’s lair back in Geatland.

I was right, which I actually usually was.
I think the person who wrote Beowulf might have written it to record and commemorate Beowulf’s life and accomplishments. Although at least some of Beowulf must be made up, I would still like to think that it’s all completely true. It’s neat to think that the creatures had actually existed and that someone could have taken on Grendel, his mother, and a dragon.
