Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. His father, David Poe, was from Baltimore. He was an actor and a heavy drinker. Soon after Edgar Allan Poe was born, he left his family. Poe's mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, was now a single mother at the age of eighteen. When Poe was two years old his mother died of tuberculosis. When his mother died and Poe was adopted by John Allan. …showed last 75 words of 425 total…the summer of 1838, he moved to Philadelphia. He changed occupation many times mostly working for newspapers. He wrote many poems and short stories during this time, but Poe never received much money from his works. Poe broke down when his wife, Virginia, died in January of 1848. In 1849 after a year of heavy drinking and drug use Poe too died. Many of Poe's works are well know now, but they weren't until years after his death.
