WHERE HOLDEN BELONGS
Holden search for himself is basically the journey that he embarks on in THE CATCHER IN THE RYE by J.D. Salinger. he goes from his rich boy, preppy, private school, to a sleazy motel, to the streets of New York. It seems to Holden in the beginning of the story that the whole world is nothing more than a bunch of phonies, and all he really wants whether he realizes it

has a chat with Phoebe at the end of the story when he is planning to head west, she convinces him to stay in New York, and to go home. And he does. So maybe where Holden really belongs is right where he is. And even though he can’t change the people who are phonies, or escape from them, he can ignore them and just live his life which is probably the best idea.
