Society is flawed. Critical imbalances cause much of humanity to suffer. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engle’s Communist Manifesto reacts to this fact in describing a vision of a perfectly balanced society, a communist society. It is their response to the new society created by the Industrial Revolution; a massive movement away from small farms and business operated out of homes to instead huge cities with mass-producing factories and underpaid workers.
