the 60’s in New York City to survive. When realizing how black people were treated unfairly and
how New York City didn’t like her or her sister because they were black, Tish wrote, “They look

has rotten soul, although she looks pretty. She is more a “woman-hypocrite”, than a
“Sanctified woman”, because you cannot curse somebody and be “Sanctified woman” at the same
time. Mrs. Rivers, Sharon, represents a real mother, a person whom you can trust, and from whom
you can expect support and love, and who you can truly love and admire. She doesn’t need to
compete with anybody – she just needs to be herself, “Mama Sharon”.
