A Fly Ride
The “cool pose” of many African Americans in today’s culture is a way to give themselves power and control that they still have not been fully able to achieve in the many years after slavery. They develop the persona of the “cool cat”, as Richard Majors and Janet Mancini Billson put it, to fill the void of the normal power and control they lack.
The typical “cool cats” are unemployed black

The inner city along with African Americans has developed a strategy to survive the mean streets. This is what is known as the “cool cat”.
