In this essay, a small number of similarities and differences between Canada and a foreign country (Austria) will be examined and discussed. The purpose of this is to gain knowledge into the foreign country (Austria) as well as to show political and cultural similarities and contrasts between two essentially non-connected countries. In 1867, Austria retaliated by modifying its constitutional framework as to give Hungary equal partnership. This came to be called the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary.         Both countries, Canada and Austria, achieved Confederation in the same year: 1867. And even though their motives and implementations were different, this remains a remarkable coincidence.
