Sonja's compassion was what set off the positive characteristics that Roskolnikov played and with that it seemed to bring his character out more in the since of the compassion or sympathy he had felt. Through all that happened with Roskolnikov I think that it was best that Dostoyevsky made known of Sonja's goodness towards Roskolnikov and how it had such a powerful effect throughout the books exposé.
