His clever use of symbolisms adds a much deeper meaning to the story. The final line: "while all around her roared the mocking of the terrible, now inevitable sea", makes it clear that Andy is finally ready to leave the safe, comfortable, haven of the forest of manhood to enter the vast and unknown ocean of womanhood.
