It is clear to me that her acquaintance with Picasso is influential in her writing style of “Tender Buttons.” Picasso’s paintings were fragmented on canvas, as though he was telling a story through his works. In “Tender Buttons,” Stein uses expression through a type of fragmented of consciousness of ones inner association of life.
