Ernest Hemingway, who is widely known as the most popular American author led an adventurous life and published many of his stories. During his career Hemingway wrote many notable books including the Old Man and the Sea, which received several prizes including the Pulitzer and the Nobel Prize. This novel, although short, is far from underdeveloped Hemingway managed to pack a huge amount of symbolism and meaning into the book. The

symbolism. There is Santiago who can be portrayed as Hemingway, then there are the animals in the sea. The code-hero and the Christ-Figure play major roles in the symbolic nature of the book. It seems as though he exhausted all of his writing abilities putting them into his last finale. The book Old Man and the Sea is very deserving of the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize and will forever live on as a classic.
