In Equus the final scene shows the audience just how Alan feels about Equus and his creation in order to seek spiritual and sexual freedom. But was it Dysart that drove him to confessing about his passion. Dysart is a villain in the fact that he put Alan under a lot of pressure and finally led him to explode. his mother believes strongly in Christianity and used to read to Alan from the Bible. Alan has effectively hurt himself by leading himself down a path with no real end and no future, that of Equus and his belief that he is so sacred. So Dysart isn’t the only villain, but he is one of the only heroes except for maybe Jill as all the other characters are not there for him, especially Dalton.
