Jane Addams
Jane Addams was born in Cedarville, Illinois on September 6, 1860,and the
eighth of nine children. Her father, John Addams, was a prosperous miller
and local political leader who served for sixteen years as a state senator
and fought as an officer in the Civil War, he was a friend of Abraham
Lincoln.
Jane's mother dies when she was only two. Her father remarried and her new

Addams played a prominent part in the formation of the National Progressive Party in 1912 and of the Woman’s Peace Party, of which she became chairman in 1915. In the same year she was elected president of the International Congress of Women at The Hague, Netherlands, and president of the Women’s International l League for Peace and Freedom, which was established by The Hague congress.
