Later in this act Lady Macbeth commits suicide because she was overwhelmed with sins and guilt that she could never wash clean. Shakespeare used blood and water imagery to describe Lady Macbeths decent into madness. Blood and water imagery distinguished both Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s character. It revealed the deceit and deception that their personalities withheld.
