Another Argentinean, César Milstein shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1980. He made contributions to immunology which led to improved medical advancements like cancer treatments and the detection of AIDS. With his colleagues, he developed the techniques for producing monoclonal antibodies which are antibodies with a specific affinity for certain sites in the body that might find diseased cells but leave healthy cells intact.
