Defeated and embarrassed again he was sent to live on the Island of St. Helena, where he died in May 1821. It would take almost 20 years before his body was returned to France to be buried as he had wished. He was buried in Les Invalids in France. The man passed on, but left many lasting accomplishments as well as left the world in awe.
