Both the League of Nations and the Treaty of Versailles were peace settlements that were set up to prevent war, but in fact they were both major causes of the outbreak of World War II. After December 1939 it did not meet again and was dissolved in 1946. It was a total failure at least as far as preventing war was concerned. This committee made no progress in persuading the member states to reduce armaments, though all had agreed to do so when they agreed to the covenant of the League of Nations.
