the king’s family. Every guest or serf who accepts the invitation must bring a gift for the king’s family or new child. Many peasants missed the opportunity because of the gift giving. Serfs were never educated; therefore, they could never get a better paying job to support their families in town. So a serf isn’t the best occupation in the Middle Ages, however, for most, it was the best you could get.
