symbolize the brightness and hope that make an otherwise bleak and dreary life livable. Clearly,
angels, like the lives we lead, can have whatever meaning we choose for them. I believe Plath is
trying to make us stop and pay attention to these “angels,” or the things in life we otherwise take
for granted. Life should not be a mediocre experience, but a time full of small miracles that
make it worth living.
