Doing so would simply defy his strong principle that the jury should “judge according to law,” rather than “give justice as a favour to whoever seems good to him” (Plato 35c). Socrates would clearly see President Clinton as not virtuous, for he placed his job ahead of his integrity. This is something that Socrates refused to do, even though something of far greater importance, his life, was at risk.
