The period of reconstruction was a time for change. This was a time to “reconstruct” the nation after the civil war. A huge part of this plan was to give the newly freed slaves to have equal rights in society. It didn’t exactly turn out as the “black” community had expected. Many of their hopes were crushed by the “white” society; mostly southerners. The period of reconstruction was hard for the newly freed slaves

got it. They were promised political and equality rights. They never got it. All they got were broken promises and segregation and a racial group called the KKK. What was meant to be good, turned to bad. During this time of change, change happened but not the change that needed to happen. Even though the African Americans went through some more hardships right after slavery, they made it and now have a voice in society.
