The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, conveys the story of the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts. A young girl, by the name of Abigail, manipulates the town into believing that many of the townspeople are witches. the outcome. If these suspicions had not occured, no one, even though many still did not believe it, would know the truth. The plot further develops in Act II and the characters of Elizabeth and Hale are deeply explored. We are able to see emotions in both characters, Elizabeth’s love for her husband shines through and Hale’s quest for truth begins. Act II truly set the scene for the rest of the play.
