In the movie “The Hurricane”, the main character, Rueben Carter, strongly valued survival. Two scenes in particular clearly displayed Rueben possessing this value.
In the first scene, Rueben Carter is being locked up in prison to serve a life sentence for a murder he did not commit. He had literally fought his way up the social ladder from a poor African American family to the world of a famous prizefighter only then

jacket back on. When faced in front of the guard, he once again refused to wear the prison garb. The warden conceded and asked Rueben if prison pajamas would suffice. Rueben said he would wear those. The warden thanked him.
The two scenes described in this essay clearly showed that Rueben Carter is a man who values survival. Not only did he know within himself what it takes to survive, more importantly he did survive.
