many women in the community envied Hester. I believe that the old hags in the beginning of the book envied her beauty and her skill. But as the book draws on everyone begins to admire her. Hester is proof that everyone can make a mistake, but as long as you take responsibility for that mistake, do what you have to do to correct it, and walk with your head held high you will be admired.
