As the freezing Cherokee tribe trudged through the bitter winter weather for 800 miles to a land unknown to them, white people would scream, “Massacre! Cherokees on the warpath!” Soldiers would travel with Cherokees, at a 1 to 2 ratio, to comfort the towns they passed on the way. The US government took the Indians from their homes in 1838 in the beautiful Georgia area and sent them where the land was dry

ed, but, the settlers stole their land, their culture, and lives they used to know with no protection from the US even though they wanted to become civilized and designed their government and court system imitating the US’s.
