On July 1, 1961, Dubois applied for membership to the communist party where he expressed his belief that through communism, Americans would receive "increased freedom." Which reinforces my belief that Dubois was not an advocate of the women's movement, but it was simply a tool to provide a platform for the equality of blacks. Dubois used a "by any means necessary" motif, and fought for justice on behalf of African Americans.
