Eventually, after Watergate had died down a bit, he was even able to be reaccepted by the American public. This just goes to reiterate the effectiveness of the American political system, illustrating it as a system that takes care of business, but at the same time is not overly harsh, allowing individuals to reestablish themselves within the system if it can justified.
