PLOT
Holden Caulfield is a sarcastic, nasty, and unlikeable teenage boy.
He seems to be caught between the little games of highschool (“your
supposed to kill yourself if the football team loses or something”) and the
fear of adulthood(“going to get an office job and make a lot of money like
the rest of the phonies”).

Granted, like many of his fans, Holden Caufield turns out to be
nuts or least residing in an insane asylum. Yet, in Holden’s insanity,
there is a transcendent theme. By being the angry, nasty, cynical, and
biased jerk; Holden Caulfield suggests that it is okay to be this way.
