America’s Death by Television
In reading through the Borzoi College Reader, looking for a topic to write on, I came to the section entitled “Television and Reality.” As I started reading through “Amusing Ourselves to Death,” by Neil Postman, he made some points that hit me and made me think. The quote that hit me the most was:
The problem is not that TV presents the masses with entertaining subject matter, but that television

the center, the television shows become our most compelling model and metaphor of all communication.
After reading and experimenting, half way through writing this paper, I came to the conclusion that television is equivalent to a metaphorical poison. It is rotting all of America from the inside out, redirecting attention away from where it needs to be, killing off intelligence, and killing all caring for anything but the glamorous.
