Violence is not a new problem that our society has been dealing with. The United States has been trying to find a remedy for the epidemic of violent acts being committed for many years. Though recent statistics show that since the 1980’s the number of violent acts have decreased by 20%, teenagers are committing these acts more frequently today; accounting for a staggering 50% of all violent acts committed. Another remedy to the problem of exposure to media violence is to enroll children in alternative activities. Community programs, sports, outdoor excursions, indoor crafts are all good examples. What was once in control of the parent, has been overtaken by the media: the teaching of morals and empathy. It is now the responsibility of the parent to take back what it has lost to technology.
