In the poem, the woman who marries the man out of pity is similar to Thomasin marrying Wildeve simply because of society’s norms. Neither of them wanted to get married, but made a life-long commitment simply because of their feelings. This shows the distrust of feelings and their effects on a person. Both of these works relate well to each other.
