The novel Passing has its connection with the Plessy vs Furgeson case. Mr. Bellew is the white authority and doesn't see Clare as black. Clare is equal because of her outside, her color! But she is separated from her black roots where she wanted to go again! But she was also separated when her husband found out about her and judged her!
