Shakespeare uses flowers to refer to Ophelia. Flowers represent Ophelia's innocence and beauty. In the course of a drama Ophelia is like a flower that withers and dies. Several times through out the book she is referred to as a violet. In Act 5 Scene 5, Shakespeare uses flowers to symbolize Ophelia's emotions.
