The film All Quiet on the Western Front was an excellent depiction of the hardships endured not only in the trenches, but society as a whole. The Great War was completely different from any other previous war. in the war meant more of a capacity to kill. The warplanes would drop bombs on the enemy prior to a land attack. The fighting took quite a toll on the soldiers psychologically and this is clearly evident in the film when Paul is hiding in a bomb crater when all of a sudden he is fighting an enemy soldier. Paul eventually tries to save the soldier and is eerily deranged of the whole incident.
