The character of Arthur Dimmesdale in The Scarlet Letter seemed to be a very strong man in some ways. He held the burden of his sin for seven years before he was finally able to admit what he did. Dimmesdale will also take responsibility for Hester and Pearl so that they will be able to live better lives. Since the town will not accept this they will probably leave and live somewhere else. In the end Dimmesdale will finally prove that he is a strong man in admitting what he did and being accountable for his actions.
