Binge drinking on college campuses is a commonly over looked problem. The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention conducted a survey in 1999 to study this problem. Approximately 17,600 students attending 140 four-year colleges and universities returned the surveys. According to the study, the overall total of college binge drinkers was 44 percent. In addition, alcohol damages the liver and may cause health problems like heart and artery disease.
