Lonny and Alex's really parents don't do much parenting. So the people that raise them are very important.
These parallels are used to bring Lonny and Alex together. Their similarities make them close together and all they need to do is meet each other. In the end they meet each other and become friends, realizing they're lives are not all that different. They are brought together by the LaFreniere land; Alex's future and Lonny's past.
