The Crucible In the playwright, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, many of the main characters change immensely over the course of the book. One of these characters included Elizabeth Proctor. John realizes he had to forgive himself before his wife could. Lastly, Hale begins believing that witchcraft existed, to not believing in it at all. They all change for the better, even if it came too late for some of them. All in all, the changes that occurred to them were significant.
