at the same time. This is sort of like the characters of Bertha Mason and Jane Eyre. In the novel, there are many things that symbolize the contrast and the alikeness of Rochester and St. John. An, example of this is the fact that they both like Jane, but for different reasons. Another example is their physical appearances. They are very opposite in that sense. The novel has good use of this type of writing.
