A few years ago people with disabilities were not given the same opportunities as able-bodied people. Many of them were shut-ins and not able to live a normal life. Comparing that to today and thanks to the ADA laws (Americans with Disabilities Act) they are now productive members of society.

is much easier for people with disabilities to compete for jobs in the work place.
As you can see from this essay, people with disabilities today are more active members of our society and lead much fuller and happier lives. This is not to say that there is not still much more improvement that could be made, but looking back at where we have come from we have made great strides in the right direction.
