Kenneth Branagh bases the film Frankenstein on the 18th century gothic novel by Mary Shelly. The film is set in the late 17th century in Geneva. There was no comic relief in the movie or at least none that is intentional. A few scenes are too! obviously overacted, which lead me to an occasional chuckle. In fact, given the tone of this film, humor might easily have seemed an unwelcome intrusion.
