In reading Gilgamesh translation by David ferry, I found three episodes that I think are particularly significant: no one is allowed eternal life, do not take people for granted and treat woman with respect.

The way to change the future is to learn from the past and the story of Gilgamesh is one that we can learn to live life to the fullest, tell the one close to us our much we appreciate them and show the woman in our life the respect they deserve.
