Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter
Hester Prynne, although sometimes perceived otherwise, is known to be one of
the greatest heroines to grace the pages of classic literature. In portraying her as
somewhat of an anti-hero, Hawthorne succeeds in telling us a complex and intriguing tale
of a repressive time, and one woman's undying will to strike out against these repressive
forces.

In conclusion, Hester Prynne is viewed differently by some, but is mostly
interpreted as being an anti-hero for her attitude about the repressiveness of her time. She
also is viewed as a hero to some women, for her vain and regardless concern for what
others think about her. She will go down in literary history as being an anti-hero and for
stepping out against repression in any way, shape, or form.
