Bob Ewell and the children to make the ending exciting, and it does this exact thing. It would not however have been good to end the book entirely on this note, as there would not be the same sense of satisfaction. Lee includes the last couple of scenes to make us feel the satisfaction gained through wrapping up several loose ends and concluding the book on what I believe to be a warm, final note.
