In Shakespeare's "Macbeth" there are three main compenents that contribute equally to Macbeth's behavior: the three witches, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth's own personal character flaws. All of these factors are intermingled and could not work solely by theirselves. Macbeth's behavior, like that of many, is affected by more than one thing.
The first cause Macbeth is submitted to is that of the three witches. These "secret, black, and midnight hags"(Act IV, Scene I, line 48)

decisions was discarded with this comment, "The very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand"(Act IV, Scene I, line147). Not until Macbeth's last moments alive does he show some bravado and accept his own fate, " Before my body, I throw my warlike shield"(Act V, Scene VIII, line32). Overall, Macbeth's initial ambition, fear of consequences, and fear of the unknown played a large part in motivating the events of "Macbeth".
