Math and Music Outwardly, math and music appear to be very different topics. Math seems very calculated and precise with little room for emotion, while music is thought to be impulsive and expressive. However, the individual studies of math and music, in fact, have many similar aspects. The fourth illustrated the similarities between musical composition and geometrical transformations. These two subjects are still obviously quite different disciplines and should not be overly imposed on one another. However, by understanding the relationship between these two subjects it is possible to better understand the underlying structures of music and appreciate the, often overlooked, artistic facets of math.
