There is a great deal of miscommunication in The Turn of the Screw. If there was an omniscient narrator one would be able to see through the miscommunication of the characters. It puts a burden on the reader because they do not know what is being talked about most of the time. The story can be interpreted differently by each reader. This miscommunication in the novel makes that possible.
