Through writing Gogol expressed his emotions, and used his since of humor to write stories that involve life through injustice and other literary devises. Then he moved back to St. Petersburg, where he got a job at a government post. He hated his job, but use his spare time in 1831-32 to write 8 narratives, 2 volumes which he called, Evenings on the ferry near Dikanki. These seemed to do very well in the world of Russian literature.
