In the 40 years Augustus Ceasar, previous to 27 B.C. know as Octavian, held power in Rome he was able to establish a firm foundation for emperors to come by changing laws and enacting still others. accomplishment during the period was the start of the Pax Romana, or Roman Peace, which extended over a period of 200 years, in which the only major problems occured during the years which new emperors came to power, because though Augustus chose his own sucessor he did not create any law for the selection of future emperors.
